Description:

Perna is a genus of mussels, marine bivalve molluscs in the family Mytilidae.

Mussels are primarily marine organisms, although some species can tolerate brackish water and are found in estuaries and coastal areas. They are often found in intertidal zones, attached to rocks, piers, and other hard surfaces.

Mussels are filter feeders. They obtain their food by pumping water through their gills and filtering out plankton, algae, and other microscopic particles. Mussels typically have elongated, asymmetrical shells that are dark blue-black or brown in color. The shells are often ribbed, with a glossy or iridescent inner surface.
