Mo.120 Pila with egg mass (Caterpillar with eggs)
Description:
The egg masses of Pila globosa are
often bright pink or reddish pink in color, making them easily distinguishable
in aquatic environments. The eggs are arranged in a circular or spiral pattern within the
mass, and they are encapsulated in this gelatinous matrix. A single egg mass
can contain many individual eggs, sometimes numbering in the hundreds. The gelatinous matrix of the egg mass
provides protection to the developing eggs, helping to shield them from
predators and environmental factors. Pila globosa typically attaches its egg masses to
underwater vegetation or solid substrates in freshwater habitats, such as
ponds, lakes, and slow-moving rivers.
IUCN Status: Not Evaluated.
