Description:

   Like adult pen shells, young Pinna have a bivalve structure, meaning they have two hinged shells that can open and close. Pinna shells are typically long and tapered, resembling a feather or a quill, and can be quite large even in their juvenile stages.

   They are filter feeders, using their extended siphons to draw in water and filter out plankton and other small particles for food. Young Pinna are found in marine environments, often in sandy or muddy seabeds in shallow coastal waters.
